Molecular Devices supplies high-performance bioanalytical measurement systems that accelerate and improve drug discovery and other life sciences research. Our systems and consumables enable pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to leverage advances in genomics and combinatorial chemistry by facilitating the high-throughput and cost-effective identification and evaluation of drug candidates. Our product solutions are based on our advanced core technologies that integrate expertise in engineering, molecular and cell biology, electrophysiology, and chemistry. As our Director of Business Development your main objective will be to develop company growth by managing the identification, evaluation, and development of academic, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology prospects for new business opportunities. Your technical expertise and understanding of the principles of analytical instrumentation used in molecular and cellular biology laboratories will allow you to evaluate new and competing technologies. You will perform market research and analyze new market opportunities, therefore a strong knowledge and understanding of the market dynamics within the life science research markets will be key to your success. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven experience developing proposals and term sheets for business opportunities and managing the day-to-day aspects of closing are required as you will utilize legal counsel, write contracts, and coordinate with accounting, finance, human resources and other functional areas. While not required, acquisition experience in the life science industry and/or an MBA will put your resume at the top of the stack. This position requires 25-35% travel, both domestically and internationally, in support of trade shows, seminars and field sales representatives.
